About this circuit
The Kashmir Valley is four distinct experiences in one: Srinagar's Dal Lake houseboats and Mughal gardens, Gulmarg's ski slopes and Gondola (world's highest cable car), Pahalgam's pine-fringed Lidder River, and Sonamarg's glaciers at the gateway to Ladakh.
Significance
Often called the "Switzerland of India," the valley sits at 1,600m and produces the world's finest saffron, pashmina, and walnuts. Gulmarg hosts Asia's longest cable car (3,979m). Pahalgam is the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Practical notes for pilgrims
- ·April–June: tulips & apple blossoms; Sep–Oct: chinar gold & clear skies
- ·Avoid July–August (heavy rain) and Jan–Feb (heavy snowfall closes roads)
- ·Book houseboats on Dal Lake directly — avoid touts at the airport
- ·Gulmarg Gondola Phase 2 (3,979m) closes after first snowfall — confirm before visiting
- ·Sonamarg road to Ladakh (Zoji La) opens only June–October
- ·E-permit required for some restricted areas near Pahalgam — check before you go
